Love's Torment/New Works in Process

Pete Driessen/Visual Artist
Love’s Torment/New Works in Process

Pete Driessen will present Love’s Torment and portions from several new bodies of artwork for Art-A-Whirl 2011 at Casket Arts, Minneapolis, MN, USA, on May 20-22, 2011. The new works in process by American artist Pete Driessen (Born 1961, Hopkins, MN) directly or indirectly illuminate transition and transformation and their proximity to divorce. Addressing border zones of pain and fear, parenting and uncoupling, and gender and masculinity the large scale paintings reflect the ordering and filtering out of discrete fragments of life and represent them with obvious, awkward and suggestive symbols.

Vulnerability, victimization, and deception are often tied very closely together in our partnerships with pain, shame and torment. Multiple triangulating levels of marital reality are inserted in the paintings, as the disintegrating fragile and organic family system contrasts with an artificially forced, single parent system.  Themes of sexuality and betrayal, freedom and loneliness, grief and loss are all illuminated via a chunky-clunky, polychromatic painting technique.

Also included in the studio exhibition will be two paintings from Self Portrait with Roof Rake Series, twenty paintings from the recent Nauticalia Tentacalus series, and two recent mixed media ship fleets. In tandem will be the release of two new limited editions artist statements: A Random List of Nearly 200 Emotional & Confused Thoughts That Go Thru a Deceived & Betrayed Artist's Mind
When Going Thru a Difficult Divorce, and Artist Discovery Request Letter that rewrites the official oppositional attorney divorce request letter from an artist daddy-mom point of view.
